Fortnum & Masons have got it right: somewhere to hang your stuff when washing your hands in the ladies’. This is one of my pet hates about not only public facilities, but also hotel bathrooms etc…
You just can’t do the task at hand when you are juggling your handbag, jacket, shopping… It all gets in your way!
And it’s the same with all our clutter: we can’t get on with the job if our hands are full with other stuff. We can’t think through our problems when we have all sorts of other things on our mind.
